Button Street

shrieking of sirens and
birds at button street
sometimes alliteration
is a good way to bounce ideas

security alarms go off though
looking back it seems
more like the noises that come
from the pokies when someone wins

even if their children are
hungry at home and
shrieking like galahs
of course you can bounce something off me

about the connections between
empirical evidence and
social theories, dogs barking
and the hungry children of gamblers

Love and Fame and Death

it sits outside my window now
like an old woman going to market;
it sits and watches me,
it sweats nervously
through wire and fog and dog-bark
until suddenly
I slam the screen with a newspaper
like slapping at a fly
and you could hear the scream
over this plain city,
and then it left.

the way to end a poem
like this
is to become suddenly
quiet

Charles Bukowski

Its been 20 years since he died
(to within a day or so)
Not 100% on the law when it
comes to posting others work.
 If you're from Charles
Bukowski's estate I apologise;
 I just love this poem.

The first guest post

By a friend of mine named Jonathan Glasseye

pizza boxes and
upturned cups
stains the weren't there yesterday sit
on your skin like stays in b grade motels when
the storms too thick to camp
second hand mattresses
cigarettes ive rolled too tight to smoke and
overpriced coffee neither of our mouths can taste
i like to get high and pretend im hunter s thompson
you like to re-live the past
but not this moment i bet

Punctuation

Is kind of how I see these little verses, and it's been a style I'm falling into lately but really enjoying

Nights like tonight
are strange,
It's the wind
It's so loud
sitting so close
still

I can hardly hear you
speak

          once you called
me an enigma,
I loved that.

Slim

It's only fair the first poem is one of my own

This I've had for a few years now. I used to work rotational shifts in a factory and adjusting your body clock to suit the shift could sometimes be tough. Magpies used to gravitate to my ex-girlfriends place in Victoria; from around 5.30 they would keep me company as I tried to fall asleep after a night or evening shift.

morning Bird
given to fly

stretch out your
wings before night
fills the sky

evening bird
late night caller

mourning lament for
insomniac friends

do you rise early?
or stay up late

morning bird
wakeup call

the night has
passed and you
brought the dew

mourning bird
now misty shadow

the sun is now rising
and it seems
you start early

warbling bird
you've woken my lover

I know the truth
and

you always stay up

Welcome to Slim's Picks

Safely tucked away underneath the umbrella that is Slim William's Trading Company we have Slim's Picks.

The idea here is simply to post any and all amateur poetry just because we can; and if you have a poetry baby that you would like to see warm and dry under the umbrella then please - slim.will.trading.co@gmail.com

Although I hate to do this I feel a little disclaimer is required; This is supposed to be a collaborative effort between those who have nothing else in common but a love for words and the internet. Constructive criticism is necessary to development but any rude or malicious comments will be deleted. Above all try to be honest and only pass judgement if you're willing to have your own work scrutinized.

I can't wait to hear from you
